Every year March brings the Spring Equinox. This is when the days start becoming longer than the nights. The promise of the return of the light, which occurred on the Winter Solstice, is being actualized. It’s a time when we are challenged to implement the goals we envisioned for ourselves through concrete action. It is a time of new beginnings. This year, in particular, the Equinox can be greeted with joyful optimism as we continue to emerge from the dystopian darkness of the pandemic. This is based on certain aspects that occur on the day of the Equinox as well as an event that takes place a week later.
At the time of the Equinox, Venus, the energy of love, harmony and beauty will be in the sign Pisces. Venus is particularly strong in Pisces. It brings qualities of compassion, devotion and unconditional love to our relationships. It also enhances our aesthetic sensitivity and creative imagination. Venus will be within 2 degrees of an exact conjunction to the Sun that day. This increases the positive potential of Venus in Pisces.
There will also be trines between the Moon in Gemini and Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius. Trines are angular relationships that are approximately 120 degrees apart. They provide mutual support to the planets involved. Gemini and Aquarius are air signs. The air element is oriented toward our intellectual and social lives. The on-again, off-again quarantine that has closed us off from each other and enjoyable social activities may be moving in the direction of more openness. This will also bring a renewed appreciation of the opportunities to engage in public activities that are recreational, relaxing and fun.
The intellectual orientation of the air signs further suggests that this is a time when our schools are reopening. The trine to Jupiter especially suggests opportunities to expand our academic as well as social activities. A generosity of spirit accompanying this aspect can provide an attitude of hopeful optimism that we can get through this dark time and, especially on the day of the Equinox, that the light is finally beginning to manifest.
The trine to Saturn helps us to stay grounded. Although we may be opening up in ways we have not experienced in quite a while, it will take even more time before we are no longer plagued by Covid. Saturn counsels caution and a methodical, deliberate approach to returning to our normal or pre-Covid lives. While Jupiter can bring enthusiastic idealism, Saturn brings the need for discipline and a structured, defined re-opening. That balance is a key that will enable us to move into the new season open to new possibilities yet keeping practical limitations in mind. This is a month to define new goals that can be achieved over time. Think of this as a seed sowing period. The harvest will arrive later.
The other interesting event this month occurs at the time of the Full Moon in Libra on the 28th. Like Gemini and Aquarius, Libra is an air sign. In fact, there will be a Grand Trine that day between the Moon, Mars and Saturn. Grand Trines represent the most harmonious and supportive interaction between the planets. So once again there is the possibility of society, including academic institutions at all levels, re-opening (Mars representing new beginnings) in ways that are clearly defined and organized (Saturn). The Full Moon each month provides the potential for clear perspective in two areas. One is our emotional state. How we feel and why do we feel that way are good questions to ask at that time. Second, we can get clear about a realistic understanding of where we are in the process of re-opening. With Saturn’s presence we can realize how to proceed in conservative, controlled ways that provide the safest and, in the long run, most productive ways to restart the economy as well as our personal goals and social lives.
Aries (March 21-April 20)
Aries: This is a good time to begin creative projects. Anything from writing to visual art could prove inviting. Your energy level is very strong right now, so having a place to direct it is important.
Taurus (April 21-May 21)
Taurus: This month brings energy that can enhance your relationship to friends and colleagues. Engaging in spiritual activities or joining in volunteer service with these people are good ways to take advantage of your potential this month.
Gemini (May 22-June 21)
Gemini: Two emerging themes for you this month. One is taking advantage of the social energy mentioned above. The other is to utilize the abundant physical energy available. Activating that combination in an integrated way will enable you to bring about changes that are simultaneously enjoyable yet practical.
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
Cancer: Creative energy is quite strong for you, especially at the time of the New Moon (13th) and the Full Moon (28th). The latter can also provide clarity and perspective about relationships with family members or colleagues.
Leo (July 23-August 23)
Leo: Artistic self-expression is paramount for you this month. Alternatively this could also play out by engaging in organizing or at least participating in volunteering to help those who have been hurting, especially due the circumstances of the pandemic.
Virgo (August 24-Sept 22)
Virgo: Early month is a good time to focus on health. Learning about new healing modalities and feeling comfortable trying them out is an example of this. Late month the focus might shift to personal relationships. Enhanced feelings of love and devotion could create more intimacy.
Libra (Sept 23-Oct 23)
Libra: The Full Moon in Libra on the 28th can bring clarity about your emotional life. Use this as an opportunity to feel your feelings. Regardless of how awkward it may feel, sharing them with others can prove liberating and lead to greater understanding about your relationships.
Scorpio (Oct 24-Nov 22)

Sagittarius (Nov 23-Dec 21)
Sagittarius: Communicating with a variety of people in a variety of social contexts is a good way for you to take advantage of the energy of the month. Growth takes place when you are as open to learning new things as you are to sharing with others what you already know.
Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 20)
Capricorn: Your physical energy should be strong this month. This could take the form of sports or working out (within realistic Covid restrictions). Finding solutions to financial difficulties, some of which may be new and unexpected, is another way to make productive use of this energy.
Aquarius (Jan 21 to Feb 19)
Aquarius: Stay open to unexpected changes this month. It’s good to have clear intentions, but be willing to alter your approach or even the goals themselves. Inspiration can manifest by letting go of something which is clearly not going to work.
Pisces (Feb 20-March 20)
Pisces: Confidence, creativity and mental clarity are all available to you this month. There will be four planets transiting through Pisces this month. This is a good time to be true to yourself and authentic in sharing yourself with others.
