It takes Jupiter about a year to transit through a sign. Last month, on June 11, Jupiter entered Gemini and will remain there until June 2013. Jupiter represents the principle of expansion. It can expand through reading to develop the mind, through philosophical study, through travel to broaden one's horizons and by engaging in adventurous, exciting physical activities. By nature, Jupiter is probably the most positive, joyful and generous of the signs. It is known for its honesty as well as its sense of humor. The ancient astrologers categorized Jupiter as being in its detriment in Gemini because Gemini is opposite to Sagittarius, one of the signs that Jupiter rules. When a planet is in the sign of its detriment the power of its energy is diluted. For example, Jupiter is oriented toward learning specific bodies of knowledge such as medicine, anthropology or the law. Gemini, however, tends toward a variety of interests and thrives on multiplicity of either social or intellectual stimulation. So one potential problem with Jupiter in Gemini is a tendency to get overextended by having too many intellectual irons in the fire. This can lead to confusion or fragmentation of information as well as difficulty organizing or understanding the material to the point of being able to use it productively or effectively.
Gemini is the sign of communication. It thrives in situations that require networking or relating to many people in different situations and circumstances. Since Jupiter can pertain to travel, we might assume that the transit of Jupiter through Gemini will further the cause of global diplomacy. Many nations getting together to discuss their respective needs, interests or concerns could lead to less warfare and more understand among the people of the world.
Gemini also functions comfortably within a small community. So this transit can be as useful to locals coming together to discuss common needs as it can be to nations dialoging about global matters.
Gemini is also one of the signs of education. This is one area that the powers that be in the United States have been consistently undermining and limiting for the past few decades. The yearlong transit of Jupiter in this sign may not be long enough for any meaningful changes, either philosophical or pragmatic, to transpire. It may, however, be long enough to at least bring this topic to the front of public debate and discussion. Even if we just begin the process of defining a concept of public education we would be moving in the right direction.
Gemini is also the sign of journalism. In this country what passes for journalism is more accurately defined as paid political announcements. Various forces in our society, most notably representatives of the corporatocracy that we live in, subsidize and dominate media outlets in order to publicize their agendas and philosophy while passing it off as news. As previously noted, Jupiter can be a straight shooter, so hopefully people will wake up to this practice and demand more transparency between us, our government and others forces of leadership in our country.
To take fullest advantage of this transit, find which house in your natal chart Jupiter is transiting through at this time. Most likely it will be house that has Gemini on the cusp. This is the area where expansion can take place for you. This could come from studying a particular subject or having spontaneous conversations with a variety of people. If Jupiter is transiting your first, third, fourth or ninth houses this could be a good year for you to travel and expand the mind accordingly.
At its highest level Jupiter provides the energy to expand the mind through spiritual, philosophical or metaphysical pursuits. This is a good transit to focus on both the mental as well as behavioral aspects of this quest. In so doing, we have the opportunity to redefine the morals and ethics through which we relate to others. By extension, this can enable us to note ways in which certain behaviors that are supported by our culture and promoted as being moral by some may not coincide with our personal sense of ethics. Jupiter in Gemini can provide us with the clarity of what we each consider right action and the sense of independence to act in accordance with our own belief system even if that system is not supported by the group mind in which we live.
Aries (March 21-April 20)
After several months of contemplating and analyzing, now is the time to start acting on plans you've been forming. Proceed with caution, however. Implement your projects gradually and harmoniously. This is not your normal pattern or rate of doing things. At this time, however, being deliberate and methodical will lead to greater success.
Taurus (April 21-May 21)
Lots of harmony and encouragement available to you this month. Use that support to stabilize your financial situation and to implement new activities in important relationships. New opportunities for either relationships or income streams may arise spontaneously in early month. Late month stabilizes those situations.
Gemini (May 22-June 21)
Put time and energy into activities that create more harmony and beauty in your life. This could be anything from a make-over to simply buying some new clothes. If you feel artistic inspiration welling up, act on it. Growth comes from learning to be more thoughtful and diplomatic in your relationships without getting co-dependent.
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
The full Moon on the 3rd could bring up emotional intensity. This may simply be your reaction to someone or something outside of you, or it may surface as a result of an intense social situation. You may feel coerced or manipulated. Growth comes from confronting the situation or person head on. It may lead to an emotional release, but it will be quite real and lead to more clarity in the situation from that point on.
Leo (July 23-August 23)
You may feel as if you're getting smacked around this month. In early month it may come through a situation at work. There may also be an unexpected health issue that demands immediate attention. In mid-month a family member or neighbor may try to control or dominate you in some way. The way out lies in setting and consistently enforcing limits and boundaries.
Virgo (August 24-Sept 22)
From mid-month on, spend quality time alone daily. Doing something creative and artistic would be beneficial. Or, you may choose to use the time for quiet contemplation, personal process work and meditation. The greatest benefit you could experience from this is a marked increase in the love you feel within and share with others.
Libra (Sept 23-Oct 23)
Lots of social connections and opportunities for you this month. This is a good time to practice being direct and self-affirming in your social life. Your physical energy could be abundant and strong. Take advantage of it by being active, especially doing things that are new to you.
Scorpio (Oct 24-Nov 22)
Social and creative energies will be available to you all month. Your confidence could also be stronger than usual, especially in the social realm. Be open to new relationships and take existing relationships in new directions or to different areas of experience. Abundant harmony is available to you this month.
Sagittarius (Nov 23-Dec 21)
The process of getting used to your ruling planet, Jupiter, being in a new sign could cause some confusion in early month. Make sure you spend some time tuning within in order to discover the causes of the confusion and some ways out. This clarity will also enable you to take full advantage of beneficial, enjoyable situations and opportunities, especially social or financial, as the month goes on.
Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 20)
The full Moon in Capricorn on the 3rd could stimulate deep, intense feelings. The prime beneficiary of this should be you. Whatever or whoever is causing the emotional reaction is telling you more about you than anything else. One way to develop self-awareness is by being aware of how you feel. This is a month for you to understand yourself in new ways and at deeper levels.
Aquarius (Jan 21 to Feb 19)
There may be some interesting and supportive social situations available to you this month. But there could also be relationship challenges, specifically around the issue of who's in charge, you or your partner. The way out is to learn how to share the leadership role. Communication is the key to making this work, and ideas should flow harmoniously and diplomatically through you all month.
Pisces (Feb 20-March 20)
Artistic energy, social energy, physical energy and self-confidence should all be prevalent and strong for you this month. The challenge comes from becoming too idealistic about the situations in which you are active. Similarly, be open to seeing things you don't like about those you love. That doesn't mean the relationship has to end, but it can help avoid disappointment in the future.
